February 27 – April 11, 2014
Rush Arts Gallery
526 W 26th St #311, New York, NY 10001, US
A group exhibition based on a contemporary examination of artists who turn onceliving creatures into inanimate aesthetic objects. Through various media, including painting, drawing, embroidery, sculpture, and taxidermy, the works in this exhibition recontextualize the scientific into an artistic observation where the grotesque is upheld as an object of beauty.
This exhibition seeks to share with the community a complex and engaging selection of artwork. The gallery space was transformed into a semifurnished wooden dwelling where viewers are invited to experience and investigate the narrative set before them. By displaying a diverse range of work, Breathless acknowledges the ongoing significance of making art and cultural opportunities accessible to a new generation of enthusiasts embracing the dual roles of reconnoiterar and connoisseur.
